Jasper County is one of the ten counties in Mississippi that have two courthouses. The Courthouse in Bay Springs has records available from 1906. The Chancery Clerks office has newspapers, divorces, deeds, estates, wills, and deeds of trust. Circuit Clerk's office has marriage records dating from 1906.
The Courthouse in Paulding houses land records (deeds, estates, wills, deeds of trust, oil & gas records and marriage and divorces from 1932.
There are books and records in the public library in Bay Springs. A cemetary book for Jasper County exists, but is no longer in print. There are copies available in the Bay Springs and Heidelberg Libraries. There are also many great old photographs in the Old Post Office Building next to the courtyard in downtown Bay Springs. The building is owned and maintained by Magnolia State Bank. The photo of Montrose above is located there.
